More Alpine '89 madness; this "underdog", if you will, of the run might just be my favorite of the three nights. Just thrillingly dialed in. Friend of the Devil and Bird Song are just two of the many beautiful highlights from the first set. Doesn't this matrix board sound just lovely?
Set 2's Sugar > Scarlet > Man Smart triptych was repeated a year later @ Orchard Park; take your pick as to which year is better...they're both amazing, IMHO. A couple of real surprises in the second set are **Eyes**, which around this time (87-89) was slowly and evidently in need of a revamping - but they really do it justice here as a pre-Drums lead-in.
The other big eyebrow-raiser here is Throwing Stones. Believe it! They are absolutely all over this one, kids - even the most cynical of you out there will have to admit the energy of this mother - they are absolutely **determined** to make this thing as epic as Bobby probably wanted.
Dylan's Quinn for an encore? Giddy-up!

Some great shows in July of 89. This Alpine Show is an excellent example. This is more party Dead than jam Dead but it makes for a fun sunny summer-day listen. Excellent and rare Sugar Begonias with a Sunshine Daydream closer. Great Eyes as well.
